Red Hulk Revealed?

UPDATED 7/23/09

WARNING: Contains speculative SPOILERS about upcoming Incredible Hulk storylines!

My Red Hulk theory proved to be quite a popular feature for Again With the Comics, generating dozens of comments, alternate nutzo theories, and lots of traffic. Well, when I made my guess as to big Red's secret, I had no idea we'd still be wondering over a year later! Now it looks like we may be finally finding out who the Red Hulk is, in the upcoming Incredible Hulk #600:

THE STORY:
WHO IS THE RED HULK?! THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN IS GOING TO TRY AND FIND OUT! GREEN HULK! RED HULK! SPIDEY! SECRETS REVEALED! A STORY SO BIG IT CAN BARELY BE CONTAINED IN THE INCREDIBLE 600TH ISSUE OF HULK! ALL THIS AND A STARTLING SURPRISE ENDING TO TOP ALL THE OTHER SHOCKING SURPRISES THIS HULK BOOK IS KNOWN FOR! The chart-topping team of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness bring you a 600th-issue celebration guest starring your friendly Neighborhood Web-Head as the original Incredible series returns!

Huh. Well, why not Spider-Man? No one else has been inclined to clear up the big mystery, so the web-head may as well pop up out of nowhere to do it. Problem is, If I'm right about the Red Hulk's identity being Glenn Talbot, Spidey probably won't even recognize the guy! Of course, at this point, the only real in in-story suspect is Clay Quartermain, kind of, as both General Ross and Doc Samson have appeared alongside "Rulk" in the story. But then Quartermain was never portrayed as having any particular grudge against the Hulk or Banner. Even when he was hunting the Hulk, it was often with Rick Jones at his side, and with the intent of helping Banner, not killing the Hulk. So even if it does end up being Clay, I'd cry foul on characterization. At any rate, Glenn Talbot hasn't been mentioned at all yet, so who knows if I'll end up being right? We'll see soon enough, I guess.

UPDATE: OR NOT. Psyche! Incredible Hulk #600 revealed nothing, but there was MODOK, and an unnamed, pencil-thin-mustached guy standing around with General Ross who could be Talbot, but who knows? The guy didn't say or do anything. Obviously, Marvel wants to milk this "mystery" for all its worth, so they may never say who Red Hulk is. Guess who doesn't even care anymore?

Man, that would totally suck if it's Quartermain! But this whole Rulk deal has been a big eff you to the continuity of WWH, and Loeb is notorious for writing folks out of character; so, yeah, it could be Quartermain.

It could only be better if Spider-Man AND Wolverine teamed up to figure out the mystery of Rulk! Of course, they'd initially have to battle it out, due to a misunderstanding, before realizing they were on the same side.

huh? it wasn't Rick Jones? (not paying attention ...)

or maybe its an alternate reality evil Mr. Fix-It.

its definitely Grey it makes since hes in the military and already hunts the hulk all he needed was an upgrade wich samson gave him and he would make the perfect rulk

It has to be Talbot. He died in a volcano and the madder Rulk gets the HOTTER he gets. Also, Rulk's dialogue really makes sense for Talbot's character. I haven't read everything that Loeb's written, but I've never read a single thing that's "out of character" by him. In fact, most of his stuff is actually pretty character-based--such as Spider-Man: Blue or Hulk: Grey or something. Not to mention that if Marvel publishes it then it can't be out of character, since they're Marvel's characters.

I believe the Red Hulk is.......

Green Scar.

I still say it's General Ross. It makes so much sense.

Plus my theory of Ross having a fake mustach, so as to not transform with one, just seems like a perfect Jeph Loeb plot.

Then again, after more than a year, the Red Hulk could be bugs bunny for all I care. Marvel is only getting me back on this book, at all, because Greg Pak is taking over again.

The Red Hulk is either Glenn Talbot or it is Brian Banner, somehow circumvented death and conducted expirements on himself in order to get revenge on his son.

you know this comic series is ticking me off.they arent saying because as soon as we find out were gonna stop reading hulk.at least i am.ive wasted so much money on this series because they keep saying he will be revealed in this issue they didnt even reveal him in 600th issue.they said they were gonna but they didnt.all im gonna say is that it better be someone strong like a god.and if its not, i will never buy a hulk comic again.

Rulk is Cain Marko a.k.a Juggernaught..............

Anonymous said...

I believe it's A God of Asgard, Possible Odin or Balder.
Because Red Hulk picked up Thor and his hammer and only someone who is worthy would be able to do that.
Loki is a part ofthe plot.

SHANE said...

You know that is a good point back there that Rulk picked up Thor's hammer.

Now has picked up Thor's hammer?

Can anyone remember?

Now Rulk also gets hotter when he get's angry....what could this mean..a link to Planet Hulk?

Jeremy H said...

Well, that's not actually what happened. Apparently Loeb's logic is that if you're unworthy, Mjolnir is too heavy to lift, so Rulk took Thor into space, where the hammer would be weightless, and thus anyone could wield it.

Yeah, I think it's stupid, too.

I think the RULK or Red Hulk in Bruce Banner But the Bruce that Bruce killed or tried to when he became the MAESTRO think about it he sent MAESTRO back to a time that he was created he absorbed more radiation then he ever had all it would take is someone to snatch him out just before he goes nova

it's glenn talbot' brother. the grey hulk-like guy in the gamma corp mini for WWH.think it- the guy was a soldier(he answers to Ross maybe?).He suvived the experiment to become the gey hulk( modok, anyone?). THe hulk left him alive(though he was having a nervous breakdown...Doc samson?). Futher experiment's probaly cause him to "mutate" more. The hulk tuaghted him saying he was nothing, so he would want to prove him wrong...so anyone else think's Leob really, really has become a lousy writer? He messed the marvel "ultimate" comics up.He should goe back to batman.

What about Matthew "Matt" Talbot, Glenn' nephew. A couple issues back when the whole Offenders/Defenders thing happened he said that he wants to leave the hulk broken hearted or feeling loss or something. Maybe he wants revenge for his uncle?

I think is nick fury

It's Jimmy Hoffa. Now we all know where he's been hiding. In marvel's worst ideas box just waiting to pop out and reveal himself to the world.

Anonymous said...

What about the Leader? Maybe the Leader is Red Hulk?

Anonymous said...

the red hulk is the leader of the gamma corp. look at their bio. he is trained to use weapons and he hates the hulk he has military clearance.

I think the Red Hulk may be Patchwork. Read about how has the added ability to steal gamma power, and if he comes into contact with a gamma powered individual and how he can drain them of their strength and power and add it to his own.

zaon2000 said...

It's waldo! ok. so know instead of finishing this who is the red hulk debacle, Leob decides to veer off to another mystery- who is the red she-hulk? my god it's so obvious Leob wrote himself into a corner.Cause he knows what ever caracter turns out to the red hulk is going to either suck,be too obvious or a makes no sense reveal.I think we should begin a in petition to have Leob banned from writing any marvel characters! who's with me?

its amadeus cho because the red hulk is smart . . lol idk anymore

i like this juggernaut suggestion. that totally sounds like something Loeb would pull. plus, Cain has been completely off the grid since this whole Red Hulk thing started. the only appearance he's made since the end of New Excalibur was a one-and-done of X-Men: Legacy where he basically says that he can't go good and has to be evil.

Anonymous said...

i think it is talbot because when the robot security gard scaned his eye it reconised him so did rick jones, plus he died in a volcanoe and he hates banner.

its deadpool..

I believe Loki created the Red Hulk. He in Avengers 1, attracted the Hulk and created the Avengers. The Hulk is the only one to go toe to toe with Thor. This is a plot, to destroy Thor & The Hulk.
Loki has imbued The Red Hulk with enough strength & special abilities to hurt them. I believe it's Red Norville, a past "Thor".

Why not Peter Gyrich? No prior exposure to gamma radiation (which Samson believes Red Hulk had in his non-Hulk identity) but Rulk seems to have it in for not only Hulk, but Wolverine (Hulk 15) and mutants in general, as well as any superpowered types who do the vigilante thing...

Or maybe it's really...me...
