OMG, you guys! Now I really have a motivation to stay employed! This awesome giant Validus action figure is the "Build-A-Figure" for Mattel's DC Universe Classics Wave 15, the rest of which can be seen at Action Figure Insider. I love and loathe those damnable BAFs in equal measure - I don't necessarily get every figure in every line, so I end up with a lot of stray torsos and legs. Luckily, wave 15 looks to be a good mix of characters I want (I could do without another Martian Manhunter, though), so I won't mind getting the whole set, and Validus looks like the best BAF since Chemo! The DCUC figures may be the finest superhero toys ever crafted, but they are costing me a fortune! Mattel, you bastards - how I love you!
Hiya folks! Sorry I left you all hanging there for a few weeks, but good ‘ol crappy, miserable “real life" has been doing a number on your friendly neighborhood Blogger-Man. I’m going to be out of a job at the end of May, so I’ve been polishing up the old resume and casting it about the job sites hoping to scare up a new job, but no dice so far. I’ve also been on the receiving end of some swell verbal abuse from my own father, who has disowned me for my (lefty-but-not-especially-radical) political views. He’s one of these delightful “Tea Party” fellows you’ve been hearing about, and he recently took it upon himself to scream at me and declare our relationship “forever changed” for not following in his right-wing footsteps! Imagine what he would have said if I’d gotten a word in edgewise! Not that I’ve ever tried to change his mind; all I’ve really wanted from him was for him to come over, be nice, and play with his grandson, but apparently, having a mind of my own is a bridge too far. If you think you’ve heard too much about the Tea Party, try being lectured about Libertarianism for over twenty years. BUT… problem solved! Because we're no longer talking.
ANYWAY, all of this turmoil has been pretty stressful and depressing, and not too conducive to writing wacky articles about “Matter-Eater Lad”. Happily, my real family – my wife and son- are here for me, and she told me to get back to my blog, so here I am. I’m not done with comics, by any means. I still read ‘em, and I still want to talk about ‘em, and I will be, SOON. I just hope you're still with me, gentle reader... it wouldn't be the same without you!
By unpopular demand (one guy requested them, and he's pretty unpopular) here's a look at those intolerant lactose products, Milk and Cheese! Created in the late 1980's by talented cartoonist Evan Dorkin, there's not much more to this demented duo than meets the eye: an alcoholic, rampaging carton of milk teamed with an equally drunken and misanthropic wedge of cheese, rampaging through a series of comic strips in which they insult and violently assail everyone in sight! The Samson of Spite and the Hercules of Hate filled page after page of several comics doling out beatings to a host of miscreants from all walks of life before Dorkin seemingly ran out of targets. Fun!!
And remember kids, being an alcoholic may be a blast, but GIN...Gin makes a man mean.
